Aloha Rose-
I have finally managed to finish your post on meditation. I've been wanting to find the space to start daily meditation but it's been very difficult to concentrate. It took 3-4 attempts to get through your post and I still was not able fully grasp it all.
It's sort of been that way with my life in general the past six months. I've had to close up my business temporarily because I haven't been able to focus long enough to create, let alone take care of the business side of things. I'm beginning to think that I've developed ADD. It's very frustrating. My "mad monkey" has turned into King Kong!
Any words of advice on how to tame this thing?
Thank you!
Blessings-

Kathi hi!
Gorgeous garden, thank you for once again adding visual beauty to the blog.
May I recommend a Guided Meditation CD? Listening to it while closing your eyes and visualizing, letting the speaker "take you there".
It is said that mediation is listening for "God's" answers to our prayers.
When I have "monkey mind", for I still do after all these years, I simply listen for the sound of birds chirping. This focused listening really calms and soothes me.
Another techinque mentions that when in meditation we have thoughts we don't want just "reply" to them, "Just thinking", or "not that".
Or try focusing on the breathing, thinking "I'm breathing in" on ihalation and "I'm breathing out" upon exhalation.
Don't give up trying.
What we focus on expands. If we focus on a thought it becomes more, let's say, solid, and we are almost bound to respond to it.
It takes practice. You may have ADD, but you still can focus for five minutes at a time to start, then gradually increase the time. Even adding one minute is good.
I hope this response has been helpful to you.
Much love
Rose
Thank you so much, Rose! I will pick one up from the bookstore this weekend as I have a coupon I can use!
As for the ADD, I went online and ran a diagnosis test and it says that I am most likely to have several types of ADD. I'm looking for holistic healing, but I think it's time to look for a doctor and get diagnosed "officially". This really explains many of the issues I've had throughout my life.
Do you recommend using a timer? I've seen those really pretty "gentle" bell timers!
Hi Kathi
Yes a timer is an excellent idea. I usually meditate with a clock nearby. I predetermine how much time I want to "sit" and don't get up until that time.
I just learned in school last semester, in Psych class I think, that they are beginning to think that ADD is a trumped up diagnosis.
Meditation will help this lack of concentration. Try that before meds.
Love you,
Rose
thank you, rose! oh yes, i have listened to so many horror stories about the ADD/ADHD diagnosis. and the drugs that are being Rx'd. once my finances are straight, i plan on heading to a naturopath as my med insurance doesn't cover.
i'm far from being an expert but my feelings are that our society has changed into a very rigid linear, time-based paradigm that those with an alternative way of thinking are having a harder time adjusting. something we did not see as much of a hundred years ago when children had the freedom to be a kid!
i could go on! :)
thank you so much for the meditation advice! i start this evening!
love and light-
kathi
