Quick update on New York plans

Aloha, Rose ~~~

The "big move" is approximately six weeks away, and things are beginning to fall into place. Late last week I signed a lease on what will hopefully be a nice apartment in uptown Manhattan. Just today, I (finally) received my region/district assignment. As Fellows, we're placed in the districts that have the greatest need for teachers so although we're asked for our preferences, there are no guarantees that any will be honored. However, I ended up with my 1st choice of both district and region (Manhattan!), so I'm quite pleased.

And now that I have my assignment, I can actually start applying for jobs! More to follow .....

Peace & Love & moving boxes galore ~~~

I'm very happy and excited for you! What level of school will you be teaching at? I hope you are aware that some neighborhoods are not "friendly" so to speak.
Oh God, New York is so wonderful!
Keep me posted.

The Fellowship folks haven't been overly clear on the level I'll be able to teach, but I'll be aiming for high school.

And, yup, I know that there are a number of less-than-desirable neighborhoods. Guess what? That's probably where I'll end up, since the whole point of this program is that it places teachers in "hard-to-staff" schools ..... ;)

High School, phew! okay then. Be prepared for kids that are "harder" than any you have ever met. Walk tall and strong and remember that Love will see you through. Go see or rent "Take The Lead" with Antonio Banderas.
